Why we like it
This is an excellent option for frequent travelers thanks to the large number of benefits it offers. It earns rewards in the form of Ultimate Rewards® points that can be redeemed in various ways including cash and gift cards, but definitely the best way to redeem them is to book travel, either through Chase Travel℠ as the points from this card are worth 50% more when redeemed through this portal, or by transferring them to airline and hotel loyalty programs. Chase is a partner of 11 airlines and 3 hotel chains for point transfers.
Although it has an annual fee of $550, it comes with a $300 travel credit in the form of statement credits for travel purchases charged to the card each account anniversary year.
It also offers a complimentary Priority Pass Select membership (enrollment required) for access to over 1,300 airport lounges worldwide, and a statement credit of up to $100 every four years as a reimbursement for the application fee charged for Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, or NEXUS.
This card doesn’t charge foreign transaction fees and offers a competitive rewards structure: 5x points per dollar on flights and 10x points per dollar on hotels and car rentals booked through Chase Travel℠ (after the first $300 spent), 3x points per dollar on dining, including eligible delivery services, 3x points per dollar on all other travel purchases (after the first $300 spent), and 1x point per dollar on all other purchases.
One of the best benefits of this card is that its points are worth 50% more through Chase Travel℠. This offers greater flexibility and versatility for using our points.
Ultimate Rewards® points earned from other Chase cards can be combined with this one to get greater value for travel, such as the Chase Freedom Flex®, Chase Freedom Unlimited®, Ink Business Cash®, and Ink Business Unlimited®, making the Chase Sapphire Reserve® even more versatile and valuable. Note that it’s not possible to have both the Chase Sapphire Preferred® and the Chase Sapphire Reserve® at the same time.
It also has additional benefits such as travel and rental car insurance, and the rewards never expire as long as the account remains open.
